A car was swallowed up by a sinkhole that opened in a west-end Toronto parking lot, but the driver escaped unhurt.

The incident happened Wednesday morning as the man was parking his vehicle at Industry Street and Todd Baylis Boulevard and he managed to escape through a window.

A nearby building has been evacuated as a precaution but police say the sinkhole is not causing any major traffic delays.

Metrolinx has confirmed the sinkhole is not related to the nearby Eglinton LRT construction.

Fears of a sinkhole near the Metrolinx construction site shut down a portion of Eglinton Avenue earlier this month.
